Correcting Teeth with Bridges or Crowns

Whether you take amazing care of your teeth or have less than ideal dental hygiene, everyone is vulnerable to having their teeth fall out. From injury or age, anything can happen, but you don’t have to stress about it once it does. There are many different ways to restore your smile while also protecting your remaining teeth. We are here to tell you exactly how dental crowns and bridges can correct your teeth and give you a brighter smile in no time.

Dental Crowns

How can dental crowns correct your teeth and restore your smile perfectly? Quite easily, actually. A dental crown is a cap or tooth cover that’s typically made from porcelain to create a natural look. This false tooth works to cover up a damaged tooth, whether it’s from tooth decay, chipping or cracking. A dental crown can also be affixed to a dental implant in order to replace a missing tooth.

Once your dentist has confirmed that you’re a great candidate for the application of a dental crown or two, an impression is taken of your teeth to begin the custom forming process. The detail that goes into personalizing a dental crown is what allows it to blend perfectly into the patient’s mouth. The colour, size and shape of the artificial cover is made to match the rest of the patient’s teeth. Dental crowns can last for upwards of 15 to 20 years with proper care.

Dental Bridges

Bridges are also commonly referred to as dentures and are used in the replacement of one, or several, missing teeth. These dentures work to connect false teeth together in order to bridge the gap, however long the span may be. Patient’s can choose to have permanent bridges that are surgically screwed into the jawbone. Or, if the patient’s jaw isn’t strong enough to secure dental implants into the bone, then removable dentures are an option. However, these might not be as comfortable to wear or speak in, for fear of them falling out. They also require a bit more maintenance than permanent bridges. As they’re implanted directly into bone, the only maintenance that’s required includes regular brushing and dental check-ups every four or six months.
